Before you can start offshore work, whether it’s on an oil platform or a wind turbine, you need to pass an approved medical. What is an OEUK Medical?
An OEUK medical (formerly OGUK medical) is a health assessment required for anyone working offshore in the UK oil, gas, or renewable energy industries.
It confirms you’re fit to work in the offshore environment, where conditions can be physically demanding and far from immediate medical help.
The OEUK medical must be carried out by a doctor who is registered and approved by Offshore Energies UK. Dr Clayton at Humber Med is OEUK-approved and experienced in carrying out these assessments.
What’s included in your offshore medical?
Medical history review
Physical examination
Vision and hearing tests
Lung function check (spirometry)
Urine test (checks for diabetes and other issues)
Blood pressure check
Bideltoid measurements Included (if required)
If you're also doing in-water survival training, you can add a Fitness to Train (EBS) assessment to your appointment. We also offer Chester Step Test, audiometry, spirometry, and drug & alcohol testing where required.
What to bring with you
To make your appointment quick and easy, bring:
Photo ID (required for all medicals)
Glasses / contact lenses (if you wear them)
Any medication you take, plus a list of names/doses
Any GP or hospital letters if you have long-term conditions
Be prepared to give a urine sample during your appointment
For Fitness to Train (EBS) or Chester Step Test, you may wish to bring trainers and shorts for comfort during the exercise test.
Medical certificates
If you pass, you’ll be issued with an OEUK certificate of medical fitness, which is valid for up to 2 years. In some cases, where health concerns are identified, your certificate may be:
Issued for a shorter period
Made location-specific
Subject to extra medical clearance from an offshore operator
Your certificate will be emailed or printed for you, and a copy retained securely in case it's ever needed again.
