First time attending a medical? Don’t worry — we’ll guide you through everything.

Coming for a medical doesn’t need to be stressful or confusing. At Humber Med, your appointment is designed to be simple, professional, and fully explained. Whether you're here for an HGV licence, offshore medical, or wind turbine assessment, you’ll be looked after every step of the way. We’re based in Beverley, close to Hull, Grimsby, Scunthorpe, and the wider Yorkshire and Lincolnshire area.

When you arrive

You'll find Humber Med at the Molescroft Surgery Annexe, next to the main doctors’ surgery on Lockwood Road. There’s parking nearby and clear signage to help you find us.
Please arrive a few minutes early to check in and complete any paperwork.
You’ll be welcomed by our friendly team and directed to the waiting area.
If you’ve requested a chaperone, we’ll ensure they’re ready for your appointment.

What your medical will involve

Each type of medical is a little different, but most include:
A review of your medical history
A blood pressure check
A vision test (with or without glasses/contact lenses)
A hearing test (for offshore and RUK medicals)
A lung function test (spirometry)
A urine sample
A height, weight, and BMI check
For RUK medicals – an exercise test using the Chester Step Test
Your doctor will explain everything clearly before they begin. There are no intimate examinations, but you may be asked to remove some clothing (like a top or shoes) for certain checks. You can always request a chaperone if you’d feel more comfortable.

What to bring

To make sure your appointment runs smoothly, please bring:
Photo ID (passport or driver’s licence)
Glasses or contact lenses, if you use them
A copy of your optician’s prescription, dated within the last 12 months (for driver medicals)
A list of any medications you’re currently taking
Any relevant GP or hospital letters if you have a medical condition
Be ready to provide a urine sample
For fitness testing, bring trainers and comfortable clothing

After your appointment

Once your medical is complete:
The doctor will go over the results with you
If everything meets the required standard, you’ll receive your certificate or completed form straight away
With your permission, we’ll keep a secure copy on file, in case you or your employer ever need it
If there are any follow-up steps, we’ll explain exactly what you need to do next
Most appointments take around 20 to 40 minutes, depending on the type of medical.

Need support with forms or paperwork?

No problem. Our team will guide you through any required forms (like the D4 for driver medicals) and make sure everything is filled in correctly. We’re here to take the pressure off with a done-for-you service that makes the whole process easy.
